A section of masonry river retaining wall, to the eastern edge of Riverside Park (Mountain Ash), on the western side of the Afon Cynon river channel, had collapsed into the watercourse. This resulted in a substantial void in the ground behind the collapsed area.
It was proposed that the existing collapsed section was to be removed and a blockstone revetment constructed in its place. The existing embankment was to be battered back to reduce the height of material retained and tied in horizontally to existing sound construction beyond the collapsed section.
Site set up & erection of temporary works.
The Emergency works were so successful that RCT had McCarthy’s back to undertake a further 3 phases over the following summers.
