The Nant Y Bwlch, Cynon and River Neath were diverted around the opencast in temporary and permanent channels above the large 80m deep cut line.
The opencast is due to close due to the collapse in coal prices and McCarthy's are currently negotiating to undertake large packages of the reinstatement works.
McCarthys were employed at the legendary Tower Colliery Site to carry out watercourse diversions for the Opencast mine on the site.
